Treadmills are one of the most popular and effective training machine you can buy these days. A new treadmill can be costly (there are models that cost 7000usd – if you can afford it you don’t need to read this post
) but he is coming with a lot of benefits .
So if you are not the lazy type that will buy the treadmill, use it 2-3 times and them throw some clothes on it until next spring you should know the followings.

Treadmill Motors
A treadmill is as good as its motor. So if you have to choose between a treadmill with a TV in console and one with a powerful motor – pick the last one.
The motor is the one that drives the belt and the one allow you to set the workout’s pace so is the number 1 thing to consider when you buy a treadmill. If you but a used treadmill look for the ones with better motors (it will keep up more).
The motor power is measured in horsepower. Treadmill manufacturers use two measurements for horsepower: continuous and peak (Continuous - how powerful a machine can continually operate without dropping off | Peak is the maximum a treadmill can generate for a short period of time) .
You should buy for a treadmill that have at least a 1.5 continuous duty horsepower motor for runners and a 1.0 for joggers and walkers. This is the minimum required. The latest treadmill models have around 2.0 horse power which is enough.
The incline
If you buy a new treadmill the incline will be adjusted by a second motor. The standard for the incline is between 0 and 10 degrees. Better models can have the incline between 0 and 12 degrees.
If the incline is set by a motor it also means that the adjustment of the belt can be made while you workout which is a serious advantage compared with manual system. The treadmill with manual incline system usually offers 4 placements like 3 or 7% but in the same time they are cheaper.
